The beginning of May marks a special moment: the christening of the new river cruise ship Amadeus Aurea.
In the heart of the city, along the IJ, the ship is given a festive welcome during its very first visit to Amsterdam.
A memorable occasion for Lueftner Cruises as well as for Cruise Port Amsterdam.
A new guest on the IJ
As a brand‑new vessel, the Amadeus Aurea is calling at Amsterdam for the first time.
By tradition, a ship making its maiden visit to the city receives the plaque and key from Cruise Port Amsterdam — a symbolic gesture to officially welcome the ship and its crew.
Amadeus Aurea is not the first vessel from Lueftner Cruises to be christened in Amsterdam.
With its berth along the IJ, Amsterdam offers not only an iconic background but also serves as the starting and ending point for several river cruises, including routes to Basel.
A family tradition with a view to the future
Lueftner Cruises is an Austrian family‑owned company with more than forty years of experience in river cruising.
That experience comes together in Amadeus Aurea: a ship that combines comfort with innovation.
Thanks to modern environmental technologies, such as a hybrid propulsion system and an efficient heat recovery system, the ship is also sustainable.
Amadeus Aurea sails under the German flag, accommodates up to 158 passengers, and reaches a cruising speed of approximately 25 kilometres per hour.
